Okay, so I know I should have done this ages ago, but apparently I was the one who was not ready. Ever since Breanna was 2 she has been using pacifier only at NAP time and BED time, no other time.........
(FYI these are pics of last week after she had a BIG fit, 30 minutes of screaming on the car ride home, and I sent her to her room for bad behavior....i guess crying makes you super tired!)
So......I didn't make her get rid of them, well because I enjoyed my sleep, didn't want to disturb it and then b/c no one ever saw them so I didn't feel guilty about her being way too old for them. I kept having an excuse, she was sick, too close to having a baby, just had a baby, I was too tired and didn't want to lose any more sleep. Well this last week I've gotten 8 hours of sleep for 7 DAYS IN A ROW!!!!! I feel sooooooo good it's insane, so why not ruin it? right? just kidding, but seriously, I asked her if she was ready to give away her pacifiers (FYI only one works, the others are like broken and barely have any thing left to them....but she has NEVER been without them at night time since birth, so, I was very nervous).
Long story short, the Pacifier Fairy came to our house last night!
First we made a box for the pacifier fairy. She put her pacifiers in there (one is still missing in the house.......aaaaahhh! i need to find it and throw it out before she finds it!)
She wrote a note to the pacifier fairy asking her to take her pacifiers to the babies that need them. She told her that she would like elephants for her bed now. She gave the pacifier fairy 2 starbursts for a treat in case she was hungry.
We made a cake for her, b/c big girls who give away their pacifiers to babies get to have a cake with their family to celebrate!
This is what she got to replace her pacifiers........ a pink elephant and 2 animals, a gecko and tiger. The gecko and tiger are a material that almost feels like the rubber on the pacifiers, b/c i know this is wierd, but she rubs her pacifiers on her face, nose, eyes, etc... to self soothe at night, so that is honestly the part I worried about the most.
She got a phone call from that pacifier fairy when she was in bed last night after prayers and songs and she was SOO excited. She thought the pacifier fairy was really silly and couldn't stop laughing. (my mom made the phone call and did a great job, but I have NO idea what kind of accent she was trying to use, british, jamaican, australian?????) Anywho, she was really excited for the fairy to come and we told her she needed to go to sleep b/c fairies only come at night.
This is what she got from the pacifier fairy......a note, a picture, a treat and Harold the Helicopter (from Thomas the Train).
It was a HUGE success. She fell asleep after an hour of being in her room, in her bed, with NO CRYING and slept ALL night, with no crying! She did ask if in a little while she can get her pacifiers back from the fairy, but I said, that she already gave them to babies that need them. She is very sure that the pacifier fairy has reindeer like santa and does NOT have wings :)

Melissa used a pacifer until she was 2.5, then I got rid of them, not as clever as you. :) How fun to have a pacifer fairy. BUT when Melissa gave up her pacifers she started sucking her thumb and did that until she was 5, so don't worry about it! Your're doing great!
What a well thought out and formulated plan. I love that she gets cake and the fairy called. YOu are such cool parents.
if it makes you feel any better, I wish my kids would take a pacifier or a bottle. They do none of the above. I go to work later this week, I am nervous!
Great job! I KNOW how hard that is. I was def. more attached than my kids were. Oh check your car and your purse for that missing pacifier. I just found one in my purse today and Isabel stopped using them about a month ago! lol.
What a terrific story!! Great planning. Looks like a win win situation and even Dad got a cake treat out of this one!! LOL!!!
You are such a fun creative Mom! I like all the thought you put into it even with being so sleep deprived.
Awwww that is soo GREAT!! Good Job Guys!! That was a really neat way to get her to give them up!!
Very clever idea and I'm sure she will remember it for a long time! I've also heard of families planting the pacifier outside and having it grow into something. Too bad you can't do something like that for thumb sucking too....
